High accuracy, low cost and no cross-contamination benefit anaesthetic application

Total elimination of any risk of cross-contamination, unfailing, highly accurate flow, optimum hygiene standards as well as cost savings were all factors in the selection of a Watson-Marlow Bredel peristaltic pump for dispensing duty by AstraZeneca UK Manufacturing, Macclesfield.

The duty involves filling 2.5 litre glass bottles with a high-value anaesthetic. The original intention had been to install a total dispensing machine but problems arose with validation of the equipment.

The Watson-Marlow Bredel pump delivers from pressurised IBCs to the dispensing head of the filling machine. Integration of pump controls and filling machine provides the required start/stop operational sequence. Recorded accuracy of ±0.2% guarantees against loss of expensive product due to overfilling.

The pump's glandless, sealless construction with the liquid completely contained within the tube eliminates any possibility of leakage or product contamination from external sources.

The silicone tubing is replaced after each batch. The avoidance of the slightest risk of cross-contamination is of paramount importance. In addition, tube changeover after each batch is a quick and simple operation, and the use of disposable tubing is economically viable.
